There’s a Reason Why People Love Gibson Island

For those seeking economic opportunity, Maryland is a great place to be. With Baltimore only 40 miles from Washington D.C., a city often regarded as having one of the strongest economies in the country, residents of ‘The Old Line State’ enjoy opportunities in both major metropolitan areas. As a result, Gibson Island has made PropertyShark’s top 100 most expensive zip codes in 2019 list.

Gibson Island’s history as a summer getaway goes back to the 17th century when Native Americans used the area as their own summer retreat area. Today, people are drawn to the area for its beaches, well-maintained parks, and access to water recreation.

And like other picturesque coastal developments, real estate doesn’t come cheap. Properties start at $1 million, with an average median home value of $1.7 million. According to Zillow, that figure is projected to rise by 2.6% over the next year.

Of the top 100, Gibson Island rounds up the rear coming in 100th place. However, 91 of the 100 most expensive zip codes are in California, and 55 of those 91 are in the Bay Area including first place Atherton, California which claims an eye-watering $6.8 million median home price.

On the east coast, only New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Massachusetts contained pricier zip codes with Hampton-adjacent Sagaponack, New York and its $4.3 median home value taking the top spot in the east (2nd in the country).

Still, Gibson Island remains one of the most opulent addresses in the country. With seven miles of shoreline, an invite-only country club complete with a fine dining restaurant, and a full-service yacht yard, you can be sure you or your clients will find the grandeur they’re searching for.
