Reminder: All CE courses must be completed at least 30 days prior to your license renewal date to avoid a reinstatement fee.

Maryland State Requirement Details for Real Estate Continuing Education - Initial Licensees

Renewal Date: Two years from the date of original licensure

Hours Required: 15 hours

Effective 10/1/2023 -All first time licensees who were issued an initial real estate associate broker or salesperson license on or after 10/1/23, the subject matter of continuing education courses must include at least one 3-clock hour course for each of the following topics:

  • Contract Writing
  • The Principles of Real Estate Brokerage 
  • The Principles of Real Estate Practice
  • Property Management and Landlord and Tenant Laws

Additionally, the licensee must complete at least one 1.5 clock hour course for each of the following topics:

  • Professionalism as it relates to the Maryland Code of Ethics
  • Real Estate Financing 

The CE Shop’s Offering: 15 hours

  • Maryland Real Estate Code of Ethics for Initial Licensees - 1.5 hours
  • Real Estate Financing Review - 1.5 hours
  • MD Property Management and Landlord-Tenant Laws - 3 hours
  • Principles of MD Real Estate Practice - 3 hours
  • Maryland Contracts - 3 hours
  • MREC Brokerage Relationships & Disclosures and Seller Disclosures (BRAD-SD) - 3 hours

*Please note that even though the course Maryland Real Estate Code of Ethics for Initial Licensees is approved for 3 hours.  This course only counts towards 1.5 hours of mandatory credit for this topic.

Effective 10/1/2024 - Students must complete all CE 30 days prior to their license expiring.

Reporting: The state requires schools to report course completions within 14 days from the course completion date. Course completions will be reported within this time frame.

Expiration Date of Course: Course expiration dates vary by course but are generally one year after order date. Each individual course will have an expiration date listed in your account. 

Final Exams: Final exams must be passed with at least a 70% and may be taken as many times as necessary in order to pass.

Certificates: Immediately upon real estate course completion, The CE Shop will provide students with an electronic copy of the course certificate of completion. Certificates will remain in your account for a minimum of five years, should you need additional copies at a later time. Please refer to your renewal application to determine if you need to submit your certificate(s) of completion with your renewal. Course completion dates are recorded using Central Standard Time. Please note that the date on your certificate of completion will reflect this.

License Renewal Process: The process to renew in this state is to log in to the licensing system online and follow the prompts to renew.
