New York State Requirement Details for Appraiser Continuing Education

Renewal Date: Every 2 years

Hours Required by the State for renewals prior to January 1, 2026: 28 Hours

  • 7-hour USPAP Update Course
  • Fair Housing and Fair Lending Education:
    • 4-hour Update to Fair Housing and Fair Lending course (if you have completed Fair Housing, Fair Lending and Environmental Issues (RE-2) or (GE-1) prior to January 1, 2022) OR
    • 7-hour Introduction to Fair Housing and Fair Lending course (if you HAVE NOT completed Fair Housing, Fair Lending and Environmental Issues (RE-2) or (GE-1) prior to January 1, 2022) NOTE: subsequent renewals require the 4-hour Fair Housing and Fair Lending course
  • 14-17 hours of approved continuing education depending on your Fair Housing and Fair Lending course requirement noted above

Hours Required by the State for renewals on or after January 1, 2026: 28 Hours

  • 7-Hour National USPAP Continuing Education Course
  • 7-hour Valuation Bias and Fair Housing Laws and Regulations course or 4-hour Valuation Bias and Fair Housing Laws and Regulations course (see explanation below) 
  • 14 hours of approved continuing education or 17 hours of approved continuing education (see explanation below)

Beginning January 1, 2026, a Valuation Bias and Fair Housing Laws and Regulations course will be required for Continuing Education. The first time a Licensee completes the Continuing Education requirement for this course, the course length must be 7 hours. If a Licensee successfully completed an 8-hour course as part of their Qualifying Education, they have satisfied this requirement. Every 2 calendar years thereafter, the course length must be at least 4 hours. This new course requirement is included in the 28 total hours for a 2-year renewal.

Beginning January 1, 2026, the 4- and 7-hour Fair Housing and Fair Lending courses for CE will no longer be required.

Note: If you renew more than 185 days after the expiration date of your license, you must complete an additional 14 hours of approved continuing education for each year that has lapsed.


The CE Shop’s Offering: 21 hours

  • 4-hour Update to Fair Housing and Fair Lending course or 7-hour Introduction to Fair Housing and Fair Lending course
  • 7-hour Valuation Bias and Fair Housing Laws and Regulations course
  • Additional hours of approved continuing education

Reporting: The state does not require schools to report course completions.

Expiration Date of Course: Course expiration dates vary by course. Each individual course will have an expiration date listed in your account. See Terms & Conditions for more details.

Certificates: Immediately upon appraisal course completions, The CE Shop will provide students with an electronic copy of the course certificate of completion. Certificates will remain in your account for a minimum of five years, should you need additional copies at a later time. Please refer to your renewal application to determine if you need to submit your certificate(s) of completion with your renewal. Course completion dates are recorded using Central Standard Time. Please note that the date on your certificate of completion will reflect this.
