New Jersey State Requirement Details for Trainee and Licensed and Certified Appraiser Continuing Education

Renewal Date: Licenses and certifications are valid for a two-year period and must be renewed by December 31st of every odd-numbered year. Trainee permits are valid for a period of one year. Trainee permits may be renewed a maximum total of three times. 

Hours Required by the State for Trainee Appraisers: 14 Hours (every year)

Note: Trainee Appraisers must successfully complete the 7-hour National USPAP Update Course, or its AQB-approved equivalent, every 2 calendar years.  Additionally, a 2-hour course on New Jersey law and rules governing the practice of real estate appraising must be completed every two calendar years.

Hours Required by the State for Licensed and Certified Appraisers: 28 Hours (every two years)

  • 7-hour USPAP Update Course
  • 2-hour course on New Jersey law and rules governing the practice of real estate appraising
  • 19 hours of approved continuing education

Beginning January 1, 2026, a Valuation Bias and Fair Housing Laws and Regulations course will be required for Continuing Education.

Reporting: The state does not require schools to report course completions.

Expiration Date of Course: Course expiration dates vary by course. Each individual course will have an expiration date listed in your account. See Terms & Conditions for more details.

Certificates: Immediately upon course completions, The CE Shop will provide students with an electronic copy of the course certificate of completion. Certificates will remain in your account for a minimum of five years, should you need additional copies at a later time. Please refer to your application to determine if you need to submit your certificate(s) of completion. Course completion dates are recorded using Central Standard Time. Please note that the date on your certificate of completion will reflect this.
