Michigan State Requirement Details for Appraiser Continuing Education

Renewal Date: 7/31 every 2 years

Hours Required by the State: 28 hours

  • 7-hour National USPAP Update Course
  • 2-hour Michigan Law Course
  • 19 hours of approved continuing education

Beginning January 1, 2026, a Valuation Bias and Fair Housing Laws and Regulations course will be required for Continuing Education.

Note: Credentialed appraisers are required to complete continuing education for a partial year in a continuing education cycle as follows:

  • For continuing education cycle periods of 185 days or more, 14 hours of continuing education is required.
  • For continuing education cycle periods of less than 185 days, no hours of continuing education are required.

Reporting: The state requires CE course completions to be reported to the state. We will report your course to the state upon completion.

Expiration Date of Course: Course expiration dates vary by course. Each individual course will have an expiration date listed in your account. See Terms & Conditions for more details.

Certificates: Immediately upon appraisal course completions, The CE Shop will provide students with an electronic copy of the course certificate of completion. Certificates will remain in your account for a minimum of five years, should you need additional copies at a later time. Please refer to your renewal application to determine if you need to submit your certificate(s) of completion with your renewal. Course completion dates are recorded using Central Standard Time. Please note that the date on your certificate of completion will reflect this.

License Renewal Process: The process to renew in this state is to log in to the licensing system online and follow the prompts to renew. Instructions for this process may be found here.

Max Hours in a 24-Hour Period: Students will not receive credit for more than 10 hours of qualifying education in a 24-hour period. Our online course delivery system manages this requirement for you.
