Next, you’ll need to start fulfilling requirements for your Continuing Education. Whether you want to remain a salesperson or advance into a broker role, here’s everything you need to know about completing your CE in New York.
New York Real Estate License Renewal
Real Estate Salesperson and Broker licenses have to be renewed online through eAccessNY. Paper renewal forms are not given to real estate licensees.
Three months before your license expires, you will get an email and postcard reminder. Both will tell you it's time to complete your continuing education and renew your license. Your reminders will also give you written instructions on renewing your license through your eAccessNY account.
New York Continuing Education Requirements
Salespersons and Brokers
New York salespersons and brokers have to complete 22.5 hours of education every two years by the day of their license anniversary date.
For your first renewal as a salesperson, your course content must include:
- 2 hours of implicit bias
- 2 hours of cultural competency
- 3 hours of fair housing
- 2.5 hours of ethical business practices
- 1 hour of legal matters
- 2 agency hours
- 10 elective hours
If you are a broker or completing your subsequent renewal, the continuing education content requirements are almost identical. (“Subsequent renewal” just means the second time you complete your Continuing Education.)
The only content differences are:
- You only need to take 1 hour of agency content, instead of 2.
- You need 11 elective hours, instead of 10.
Fortunately, you can complete your CE online at your own pace.
