How do I get a Pennsylvania real estate license?

To become a licensed real estate Salesperson in Pennsylvania includes completing the following:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Successfully complete 75 hours of approved real estate education
  • Complete a background check
  • Successfully pass the Pennsylvania Salesperson Real Estate Exam
  • Be sponsored by an actively licensed real estate broker
  • Submit the licensing application and required fee to the Pennsylvania Real Estate Commission

How long does it take to get a Pennsylvania real estate license?

The amount of time to get your Pennsylvania real estate salesperson license varies due to the number of steps involved. Most complete the requirements within four months. These include completing education, submitting an application for the license, passing the background check, and taking the licensing exam.

How much does the Pennsylvania real estate license exam cost?

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Real Estate Salesperson Exam cost $49 for both the state and national sections of the test. This is a two-part exam (national and state) totaling 120 questions. The PA specific section is comprised of 40 questions and you are given 60 minutes to complete it. The national section of the test is comprised of 80 questions and 150 minutes are allotted to complete this section.

Can I get a Pennsylvania real estate license online?

Pennsylvania residents can receive their real estate Pre-Licensing education online. The online option has become increasingly popular as these schools are flexible and affordable.

What is the average salary for a Pennsylvania real estate agent?

It's difficult to determine the "average salary" of real estate agents in Pennsylvania because many factors influence annual salaries. However, according to Indeed.com, full-time Pennsylvania agents average around $70k a year.

Can a felon get a Pennsylvania real estate license?

Pennsylvania does allow individuals with a felony record to apply for real estate licensure. However, the Pennsylvania Department of State reserves the right to deny applicants based on the nature of their crimes.

Do you need to have a diploma or GED to get your Pennsylvania real estate license?

To become a licensed real estate agent in Pennsylvania, candidates must have at least a high school diploma or GED.

How much does it cost to get a Pennsylvania real estate license?

The cost of a real estate license in Pennsylvania varies, but students can typically purchase their Pre-Licensing education for under $500. Additional fees apply in the application process. Visit the Pennsylvania Department of State website for more information.

What are the Pennsylvania requirements for Post-Licensing and Continuing Education?

In the first active renewal of their license, Pennsylvania real estate agents are required to take 14 hours of Post-Licensing education. Every two years thereafter, Pennsylvania real estate agents are required to complete 14 hours of Continuing Education.

Does Pennsylvania have real estate license reciprocity with any other states?

Pennsylvania has mutual reciprocity with Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, and New York. If you don't live in one of these states, you should check in with the Pennsylvania Department of State's real estate licensing department to ask personalized questions regarding how to secure your PA real estate license.

What is Flexible Online Learning?

The Flexible Online Learning model empowers students to complete their course content as either a live online or self-paced online learning experience, providing the opportunity to learn in the best way that works for their schedule and learning preferences.

How often are classes held?

Flexible Online Learning provides the option to complete each section self-paced from any computer, tablet, or smart phone. Alternatively, students may choose to complete each section via live online with a live instructor. Frequency of live online classes varies by class and demand, but classes are typically held weekly. A detailed schedule along with access links is available within the course.  

Can I attend part of a live online class?

You have the option to complete each section of content via live online instruction or self-paced. If you choose the live online instruction with a live instructor, you must be present (with video camera on) throughout the entire section to receive credit.

Do I have to register for live online classes in advance?

At this time registration is not required. The live online calendar has access links located on the Course Home page under the Course Materials section.

What if I attended the session but missed, let’s say 1 hour as an example. Can I make up the 1 hour the next time that session is offered, or do I have to make up the full session?

You will need to make-up the entire session – partial credit is not awarded. You must be in attendance throughout the entire session with cameras on to meet the seat time requirement and receive credit.

How do I get credit for attending a live online class?

Upon satisfactory completion of a live online session, that section is marked in the course as having been successfully completed. Once marked complete you may still review the corresponding self-paced content should you choose to do so.

If I already completed content as self-paced, can I still join the corresponding live online class as well?

Yes, live online classes are available for all enrolled students regardless if the content was also completed as self-paced. In fact, completing content both live online and self-paced is a great way to retain info, especially for more complex topics.

What can I expect from a live online class?

Each course session includes a minimum of 50 minutes of content delivery per hour of content. Up to 10 minutes of break time will be provided per hour of content delivery.  You will be required to interact directly with the instructor throughout the course using a Zoom meeting. You cannot be in a vehicle at any time during the session.  The following hardware and software are required:

  • Reliable internet access;
  • Video camera enabled 100% of the time in the Live Online course session;
  • Microphone access;
  • Audio access; and
  • Zoom testing is strongly recommended.

Is there a limit to the number of live online class sessions that I can take?

You can attend all the live online sessions. If you have already attended a session, you can attend it again. You will not receive additional credit. There is no limit.

If I take a section live online, do I still have to take exams for that part of the course?

No, you will not be required to take unit exams within sections that are satisfied via live online. However, the content covered in these sections are included in the final course exam and we strongly encourage them to be taken even if only as practice.

How far in advance should I arrive at my live online sessions?

Plan on arriving at least 15-30 minutes early for the check-in process. The class will start promptly at the scheduled time and late arrivals will not be admitted.

How do I check my Zoom connection?

Here is the Zoom test hyperlink: Zoom test link. Ensure that you have reliable internet in a distraction free area for the duration of the course. A webcam, microphone, and access to Zoom are required.

How does the instructor/moderator know who I am when I access my live online course?

Update your name on the device you are using when you access the zoom meeting. Use the name you registered with on your account with The CE Shop.

Is it ok that I take a phone call during the Zoom meeting?

No, this would be considered multi-tasking. Stay focused. Participation in the live course session is expected, including live interaction as required by the instructor.
